San Francisco - Saba:
Apple on Monday launched its first generative artificial intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, on smartphones, computers and tablets running its iOS operating system, marking the official launch of the US giant in this technology that has become a major focus of the activities of technology companies.
The iPhone maker provided a first glimpse of the Apple Intelligence system last June, joining competitors in the race for generative AI tools launched by OpenAI with the introduction of ChatGPT at the end of 2022.
Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Apple see this technology as the next major milestone in the world of informatics.
The companies are investing tens of billions of dollars in researching and designing AI assistants capable of interacting with human users, answering their questions in writing or speech, and producing all kinds of customised content.
‘Apple Intelligence ushers in a new era for the iPhone, iPad and Mac, delivering entirely new tools and experiences that will transform what our users can accomplish,’ Apple President Tim Cook said in a statement on Monday.
Apple's new features include tools to summarise notifications and messages, and help you write or find photos more easily with a simple description.
The Siri voice assistant, which has seen only minor improvements in recent years, has also become more efficient with increased conversational capabilities.
Apple also plans to integrate ChatGPT features into its services by December.
Other tools are expected to be added by the end of the year, such as those used to create photos, a function already present in competitors' assistants.
