Hamas clarifies its position on mediators' proposals for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza
[31/ October/2024]
Gaza - Saba:

The Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" revealed on Thursday its position on the latest proposals presented by mediators, which include a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestine Online website, the movement's leader, Taher al-Nunu, said in press statements that "the idea of a temporary ceasefire and then a return to aggression again, we have previously expressed our opinion on it. Hamas is in favor of a permanent ceasefire, not a temporary one."

Al-Nunu confirmed that if the mediators call on the movement to listen to new offers and proposals, "Hamas will respond to this call," but al-Nunu stressed that Hamas's approval of any offer is conditional on "meeting the resistance's four demands."

According to the leader, these demands are represented by "a ceasefire, withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the return of the displaced, the entry of sufficient amounts of aid, and a serious deal to exchange prisoners, in preparation for the reconstruction of the Strip."

Al-Nunu explained that the leadership team that manages the negotiations file in Hamas "is still the same, headed by Khalil Al-Hayya."

Earlier, Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri confirmed that the movement responded to the mediators' request to discuss new proposals regarding a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

He stressed that the movement is open to any agreement or ideas that end the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and stop the ceasefire once and for all.

Despite the ongoing mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt for months, and the presentation of one agreement proposal after another to end the aggression on Gaza and exchange prisoners, the Prime Minister of the Zionist enemy, Benjamin Netanyahu, continues to set new conditions that obstruct the agreement.
