UN: 70% of victims of Zionist aggression on Gaza are children, women
[08/ November/2024]
Geneva - Saba:

The United Nations Human Rights Commission confirmed on Friday that nearly 70% of victims of the ongoing Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip are children and women.

The Commission said in a statement accompanying a 32-page report on the violations of the Zionist enemy in the Gaza Strip during the period between October 2023 and April 2024:

"The International Court of Justice confirmed in a series of orders on temporary measures the international obligations incumbent upon "Israel" to prevent acts of genocide and the prohibited practices accompanying them, protect against them, and punish their perpetrators."

The statement pointed to the heavy burden borne by the Palestinians as a result of the attacks and the complete siege imposed by the Zionist enemy on the Strip, in addition to its continued failure to allow humanitarian aid to reach, destroying the infrastructure, and forcing the people of the Strip to repeatedly flee en masse.

In turn, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, stressed the need for the Zionist enemy to fully and immediately comply with international obligations, saying: "This matter has become more important and urgent in light of the overall behavior mentioned in the report, and taking into account the latest developments, including Israel's operations in northern Gaza and its legislation affecting UNRWA's activities."

Turk stressed the need to hold the Zionist enemy accountable for committing serious violations of international law through credible and impartial judicial bodies.

The UN Commissioner called on UN member states to take action to prevent the brutal crimes committed by the enemy in the Strip, support the work of accountability mechanisms, including the International Criminal Court, and prosecute perpetrators of crimes under international law and in line with international standards.
