Beirut - Saba:
Lebanon condemned, last night, an Israeli enemy raid on the city of Sidon in the south of the country, which led to the martyrdom of three civilians and the injury of a number of soldiers from the army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and considered it among the "war crimes".

Earlier yesterday, Thursday, UNIFIL announced that five of its soldiers were injured after a convoy of its happened to pass near a vehicle in Sidon that was bombed by an Israeli drone.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese army confirmed that the bombing was carried out by an Israeli drone on a vehicle, which led to the martyrdom of three people who were inside it, and the injury of three of its soldiers who were serving at a military checkpoint near the bombing site.

In response, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it "condemns in the strongest terms this Israeli attack" and called on "the international community to condemn such attacks and hold Israel responsible" for them.

It considered that "this attack reflects Israel's persistence in targeting UNIFIL forces, Lebanese army personnel and civilians; which constitutes war crimes and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law".

It renewed "Lebanon's commitment to UNIFIL's vital role in accordance with the mandate granted to it in coordination and full cooperation with the Lebanese army, in enhancing security and stability along its internationally recognized borders, especially amid the continued Israeli escalation that threatens regional peace".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also affirmed "Lebanon's commitment to Resolution 1701 and the necessity of its full and balanced implementation to ensure the protection of UNIFIL forces, the Lebanese army and civilians and to achieve sustainable security in the region".

Resolution 1701, issued on August 11, 2006, called for "a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel", at the time, and "the establishment of a zone free of weapons and militants between the Blue Line (dividing Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River" in southern Lebanon, with the exception of Lebanese army forces and UNIFIL forces.

The ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon since October 8, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of 3,102 people and the injury of 13,819 others, including a large number of children and women, in addition to about 1.4 million displaced persons.
