Columbia University activists intend to organize a counter-protest for the occasion of Veterans Day.
The organizers said that they want to reclaim the occasion from the "Israeli-American war machine" in the name of the martyrs of Palestine.
The New York Post newspaper said that the Apartheid Divest group is distributing flyers for this event scheduled to take place today, Monday, on the main campus in Morningside Heights.
“Veterans Day is an American holiday honoring the patriotism, love of country, and sacrifices of veterans. We reject this holiday and refuse to celebrate it,” the post read. “The American war machine should not be honored for the atrocities unleashed on others.
Instead, we will celebrate Martyrs Day in honor of those who were martyred by the Israeli-American war machine. A day to honor the patriotism, love of country, and sacrifices of these martyrs.”
