China launches new satellite into space
[14/ November/2024]
Beijing - Saba:
China has launched a new satellite into space to detect ocean salinity from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in north China's Shaanxi Province, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) said on Thursday.

The satellite was launched using a Long March-4BY53 carrier rocket, which successfully entered the planned orbit.

The satellite will fill a gap in China's ability to accurately detect ocean salinity, improve data collection on ocean dynamics and environmental factors, and enhance the accuracy of China's marine forecasting products, the authority said.

The satellite will support marine environment forecasting, ecological environment forecasting, water cycle monitoring, short-term climate prediction and global climate change research, as well as provide important data for applications in agriculture, disaster mitigation, meteorology and other related industries, it added.

This is the 545th mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.

On 9 November, on the 544th mission, China launched a new set of remote sensing satellites into space aboard a Long March-2C carrier rocket.
