EU is considering for first time imposing sanctions on Zionist entity
[15/ November/2024]
Geneva - Saba:

The European Union's foreign policy and security chief, Josep Borrell, revealed that EU ministers will discuss on November 18, for the first time, imposing sanctions against the Zionist entity and freezing political dialogue with it due to its non-compliance with humanitarian law during its aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Borrell said in a newspaper statement on Friday that after a year of unsuccessfully calls for the Zionist authorities to respect international law in his war in Gaza, we cannot continue with the usual cooperation.

He added that he proposed to the European Union countries to ban the import of products from illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as freeze political dialogue with the Zionist entity.

The European official pointed out that these measures will be discussed at a meeting of the Council of the European Union at the level of foreign ministers next week.

Borrell described Zionist practices in Gaza as "ethnic cleansing," accusing him of "attacking journalists" and warning against repeating the scenario of Zionist practices in Lebanon already.

Without urgent aid to the northern Gaza Strip, the 400,000 population would be forced to flee at gunpoint, he said, adding: "It is no coincidence that the term 'ethnic cleansing' is increasingly used to describe events in northern Gaza."

Borrell stressed that there is reason to believe that Zionist forces are deliberately attacking journalists, as 130 media workers have already been killed during this aggression.

The EU's foreign and security policy chief said these trends, which have been happening for a long time in Gaza, are now being replicated elsewhere. In southern Lebanon, 30 towns have been razed to the ground, not because of hostilities, but because of targeted bombings, posted on social media. In the West Bank, settlers are violently expelling Palestinian farmers from their land.
