Ten newborn babies were killed in a fire that broke out in a hospital in the northern Indian state of Uttar on Saturday.
“Seven of the ten bodies have been identified so far, and 16 other newborns are in critical condition,” Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Wazir Brajesh Pathak, said in a statement.
“Those responsible for this tragedy will be identified and strict action will be taken against them,” Patak pledged to support the families of the victims and conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to medical sources, 45 babies have been rescued and are currently receiving medical care.
The cause of the hospital fire is still unclear, but some media outlets in India have suggested that an electrical malfunction led to the fire.
