Brazilian authorities announced the death of 17 people in the east of the country after a bus veered off a mountain road and fell into a ravine in the state of Alagoas.
The governor of the state, Paulo Dantas, said in a statement yesterday, according to Agence France-Presse: “The bus falling into a ravine resulted in the death of 17 people and the injury of several others.”
Brazilian media reported that the bus was carrying 40 people, and that the accident occurred in a mountainous area that is difficult to access called Serra da Bariga.
