Handicrafts exhibition opens in Dhamar to showcase local products, support small business development

Hodeida - Saba:

Handicrafts exhibition in Dhamar was officially opened on Thursday. The event was inaugurated by key officials, including undersecretaries of Dhamar province Ali Atef and Mahmoud al-Jabin.

Along with Chairman of the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprises Development Ahmed al-Kebsi, the exhibition, organized by the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprises Development in partnership with the National Women's Committee.

The exhibition highlights a range of products, including children’s and women’s clothing, bags, belts, and other leather goods.

It is the result of a 60-day training program in advanced sewing and leather craftsmanship, which involved 80 trainees.

Key Highlights of the Exhibition and Opening:

- Training Program Impact: The exhibition is a direct outcome of a training initiative aimed at empowering local artisans, particularly women, in advanced sewing and leather industry.

- Economic Empowerment: Officials emphasized the importance of providing marketing outlets for local handicrafts and improving product packaging to make local goods competitive with imported items.

- Support for Craftsmanship: There was a strong call for government and commercial efforts to support small enterprises through funding, raw materials, and market access.

They also urged commercial malls to reserve space for handicraft products.

- Role of Local Economy: Ahmed al-Kebsi highlighted the need for feasibility studies for small projects, the coordination between various sectors to promote economic self-sufficiency, and the importance of creating job opportunities to reduce unemployment.
