United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated on Friday the organization's unwavering support for the Palestinians in their struggle for their inalienable rights to live in peace, security and dignity, noting that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip is worsening on a daily basis.
The remarks came on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians, which is commemorated every year on November 29, since it was endorsed by the UN General Assembly in 1977.
Guterres said: "After more than a year of escalation, Gaza Strip is in complete ruins, and the humanitarian situation is getting appallingly worse," Guterres said, stressing that this situation cannot be justified in any way.
He pointed out that Zionist military operations in the West Bank and ongoing settlement expansion increase the suffering of Palestinians, calling on the international community to act urgently to stop these illegal practices and end the Zionist occupation of the Palestinian territories.
Guterres concluded by emphasizing that "nothing can justify the collective punishment suffered by the Palestinian people," in light of the continued Zionist violations of international law and human rights.
