Russian scientists developed device to measure breathing indicators & monitor lungs condition
[Wed, 14 Aug 2024 15:51:01 +0300]

MOSCOW August 14. 2024 (Saba) - Scientists from Siberian State Medical University in Russia have developed a device to measure breathing parameters called Spirometry for patients suffering from various lung diseases.

Russian news agencies quoted the scientists today, Wednesday, as saying that the patient himself can use the device that works with ultrasound waves to record breathing parameters.

They pointed out that the Spirometry device is used to diagnose bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other respiratory diseases.

Scientists explained that the currently used spirometers work either on the turbine principle, where it rotates under the influence of the respiratory current, or on the membrane principle, where the shape of the membrane changes under the influence of the respiratory current.

They noted that this method of measuring respiration depends on external environmental factors, temperature, humidity, etc., meaning that the indicators of these factors must be constant.

Scientists highlighted that, in addition, the calibration of these devices must be adjusted at least once a week, while the calibration of the new device is adjusted during the production process to remain constant regardless of environmental conditions.

It is worth noting that according to the World Health Organization, about 262 million people in the world suffer from asthma, and the disease spread increases with urbanization due to air pollution inside buildings and in the atmosphere. In addition, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ranks third in terms of the number of deaths in the world, as it takes the lives of about 2.8 million people annually.
