The Free Democratic Party (FDP) has again called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) to quickly pave the way for early elections.
The FDP's secretary general, Bijan Djir-Sarai, told the German news agency DPA today that the chancellor's delay of early elections by now referring to the political responsibility of the state is absolutely unbelievable.
Djir-Sarai added: "The Free Democrats made Scholz an offer to end the governing coalition in a jointly organized way and complete the projects that need to be dealt with quickly, but he made a different decision."
Djir-Sarai said: "The remaining government of the current Federal Chancellor now consists of two candidates for chancellor, who no longer have a majority in parliament. "Our country is leaderless," he said, citing a lack of strength , will to solve pressing issues and put the economy back on the road to success, adding that the stalemate is irresponsible.
In his current plan, Scholz plans to call for a no-confidence vote in parliament on January 15.
Early elections could then be held at the end of March. However, on Friday, Scholz appeared willing to discuss the timing of the vote of confidence and the subsequent early elections.
