Lebanon submitted a new complaint to the UN Security Council, in response to the continued deliberate targeting of the Lebanese army by the Zionist enemy since the start of its aggression against Lebanon in October 2023, which witnessed a noticeable escalation during the past weeks.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the National News Agency on Tuesday, "It instructed the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York to submit the complaint," referring to the serious attacks on the Lebanese army and its centers and vehicles in southern Lebanon during the period from 17 to 24 November, which resulted in the death of ten members of the army and the injury of 35 others, including critical cases.
The statement added: "In its complaint, Lebanon called on the member states of the Security Council to condemn the repeated Zionist attacks on the army, considering them a flagrant violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and international resolutions, especially resolution 1701, as the Lebanese army constitutes the main pillar in the implementation of this resolution.
The statement stressed that "targeting the army seriously undermines the current international efforts to reach a ceasefire, weakens the ongoing mediation efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region, and is a clear message from the Zionist enemy by rejecting any initiatives for a solution, and insisting on military escalation instead of diplomacy."
