The Chinese Ministry of Defense has described the United States as the "biggest threat to space security".
"Facts have proven that the United States is the biggest threat to space security and the biggest instigator of the space arms race," ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang said in response to a media inquiry about US plans to deploy anti-satellite weapons targeting Russia and China in 2025, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.
"The U.S. considers space to be an area for waging war, strengthening its space forces, establishing military alliances and weaponizing space," the Chinese spokesman noted. "These actions pose serious threats to the common security and development interests in space of all countries."
Zhang stressed that the Chinese side supports the peaceful use of space, opposes the weaponization , arms race in space, and promotes the construction of a community with a common future for mankind in space.
The Chinese defense spokesman called on the U.S. side to stop spreading irresponsible statements, stop expanding its arsenal and war readiness measures in space, and contribute to maintaining lasting peace and security in space.
