The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced the arrest of a CIA official named Asif Rahman on charges of leaking top-secret documents related to possible Zionist military plans against Iran.
Rahman was arrested on Tuesday in Cambodia after a month-long thorough investigation into the case, in close cooperation with the Defense Department and the U.S. intelligence community.
He said he was transferred to federal court in Guam, the westernmost point of the United States, and faces two serious charges of intentional retention and transmission of national defense information, violations of the Espionage Act that prohibits the unauthorized retention of sensitive information that could harm the United States or aid a foreign enemy.
According to court documents, "Rahman," who was working abroad for the CIA, had a top-secret security clearance, giving him access to sensitive and fragmented information.
The FBI said the leaked documents, prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, contain highly sensitive information about interpretations of the satellite imagery, shedding light on the possibility of Israel launching an attack on Iran.
The leaked documents began circulating on Telegram last month, causing great concern among U.S. officials.
The information contained in the leaked documents is strictly confidential, highlighting possible Israeli plans to retaliate against Iran for a missile attack earlier this year, and details of these documents include satellite image explanations that provide insight into the possibility of Israel launching a military strike on Iran.
The CIA declined to comment on the case, demonstrating its extreme sensitivity, and the FBI has emphasized the importance of investigating the case. He pointed out that the leak of classified information could harm US national security.
