Sana'a-Saba:

A meeting chaired by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Ali Al-Yafei, discussed the results of participation in the workshop on the revision of the preliminary list of the World Heritage Convention.

During the meeting, the head of the ministry's technical office, Jamil Shamlan, briefed the Minister of Culture on the results of his participation in the workshop held in Bahrain from November 17-20.

He stated that one of the most prominent results is the presentation of more than 25 historical and heritage sites throughout the Yemeni territory to the workshop by participating specialists from various governorates, and agreement to conduct studies on them in preparation for their inclusion in the preliminary list of the World Organization.

Shamlan stated that seven historical sites have been submitted at the level of Sana'a governorate, in preparation for their inclusion in the preliminary list of the World Heritage List, namely Al-Rawda, Bir Al-Azab, Attan village, Hadda village, Sanaa village, and Bayt Baws village.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism praised the results of the participation, pointing to Yemen's historical, cultural, and tourist sites and the importance of preserving them as they represent an extension of the country's history and its civilizational and historical identity, and a real and priceless wealth that must be invested in a way that preserves its great historical status and value.

Yemen has five cities and historical sites inscribed on the World Heritage List: Shibam, Old Sana'a, Zabid, Socotra, and the Queen of Sheba.

UNESCO's preliminary list includes nine sites and cities: Saada City, Historic Thula (Amran), Amriya School (Rada'), Jableh City and its Suburbs (Ibb), Jabal Bara (Hodeida), Jabal Haraz (Sana'a), Balhaf Broome Area (Shabwa), Hoof Protected Area (Al-Mahra), and Sharma Protected Area (Hadramawt).
