The UN Security Council will hold its monthly session on "the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue" this evening, Monday, followed by a closed consultation session.

The members will listen to a briefing from the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, on the political and humanitarian situation in occupied Palestine.

Last Wednesday, the United States used its veto power against a resolution in the Council calling for "an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire" in Gaza.
