Baghdad – Saba:
The leader of the State of Law Coalition in Iraq, Nouri al-Maliki, stressed that "defending Syria is defending neighboring countries and the entire region, and it is defending Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, and other countries."
Maliki said in a televised speech on Wednesday: Everyone is called upon to have a real and supportive position to face this great challenge.
Al-Maliki stressed "the need to protect Syria and its territorial integrity, security, and stability from attacks by armed organizations, through which they were able to control large parts of that country recently."
"Any imbalance in Syria's stability and unity will affect the region," he said. "We all defended Syria in the past from this standpoint because it is a pivotal and centralized state and its fall means the destruction of the entire region."
He continued: "We in Iraq, in the region, and the Arab and Islamic countries, must protect Syria, its territorial integrity, stability and return to its normal situation.
